This week, the Region of Waterloo announced that adults aged 18+ and live in high-priority neighbourhoods can pre-register for the vaccine. This includes adults who are living in the following neighbourhoods: Vanier/Rockway, Country Hills, Alpine/Laurentian and Victoria Hills/Cherry Hill in Kitchener, as well as Shades Mills in Cambridge and Columbia/Lakeshore in Waterloo.
The Region also noted that they are currently working with organizations in these neighbourhoods to install pop-up clinics, which will only be available via appointments.
Last week, the province of Ontario added pregnant people to their vaccine priority list. The Ministry of Health announced they were reviewing vaccine eligibility for people following a surge in COVID-19 symptoms, including an increased risk of severe illness, in pregnant women.
The Waterloo Region also announced last week that they have opened pre-registration for all essential workers who cannot work from home.
After nine tickets were issued to churchgoers leaving a Sunday service at Woolwich Township’s Trinity Bible Chapel, a judge granted a temporary injunction to lock the doors at the chapel. Since February, the Trinity Bible Chapel has held services above the provincial limit throughout the month of April. Under the stay-at-home order, any Ontario religious services are currently capped at 10 people. Currently, health officials have confirmed 14,412 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus, including 13,583 recoveries and 252 deaths. 558 cases are considered active in the Waterloo Region.
