Writer’s Guidelines

The Cord Community Edition is currently accepting submissions in the following areas on a strictly volunteer basis. All submissions may be sent to communityeditor@thecord.ca

NON-FICTION: The Cord Community Edition accepts queries for short and long form non-fiction. Stories must have a focus on the Waterloo Region, and are held to WLUSP’s and The Cord Community Edition’s journalistic standards. Subject matter includes local news, profiles, municipal politics, urban planning, arts and culture. Story length for short non-fiction is about 500-700 words; long-form is 1500-3500. One month lead time.

CREATIVE NON-FICTION/ESSAYS: Non-fiction pieces that have a creative or narrative slant are welcome for submission. Focus should be on Waterloo. Should be no longer than 3500 words. Submit with a sample of the piece. One month lead time.

OPINION/COLUMNS: The Cord Community Edition welcomes ideas for regular columns and opinion pieces on issues of interest to Waterloo Region. Should be no longer than 600 words. Please email with sample and statement of interest.
