Welcome to the Cord Community After Dark

Anna Beard
ARTS & CULTURE EDITOR

On Saturday November 2nd, 2013, us here at the Cord Community Edition joined in the brilliance that was Night\Shift by setting up our own, late night talk show – Cord Community After Dark.

Night\Shift, Kitchener-Waterloo’s own Nuit Blanche style evening of art, culture and nocturnal adventure, was hosted by our friends at Alternatives Journal and Christie Digital. Running from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Night\Shift brought Downtown Kitchener into a whole new light by encouraging residents to experience it, in the dark.

Twenty different sites lined the downtown core across King and Queen with each adding it’s own special flavour to the evening. Our pop up late night talk show found a home in Kitchener’s Civic Park, just outside Centre in the Square. It was cold but, well worth the opportunity to get to know so many of you.

15 minutes of fame anyone?

Our late night talk show, Cord Community After Dark gave us a chance to put our executive team and writers to work. More importantly though, it was a chance to connect with our community and learn a bit more about the people in it.

We met people from all walks of life –

Keen and curious students who are newer to the region and exploring the heart downtown Kitchener for the first time

Carrie and Mariah were first up on the show.

Future musicians

We met three lovely music students from WLU. Keep an eye out, folks - we've got stars close by.

Life long community members who told stories of trials and triumph

and even a fox-like friend who answered a popular question regarding what foxes say.

That’s not all though – we met teachers, administrators, snow boarders, moviemakers, visual artists, jugglers, dog trainers, ice cream entrepreneurs, organic farm workers, poets, and so many others who gave us a bit of insight as to why they love Kitchener-Waterloo, the region, and events that make our cities shine.

The brilliance of the evening was beyond our expectations. Events like Night\Shift excel at bringing people from all across Kitchener-Waterloo together and we were so thankful to be a part of it.
