The Cord Community Edition presents the Kitchener-Waterloo Tweed Ride

UPDATE:
Dear Tweed Riders – we are so excited to go on a stylish bike ride with you. But after a lot of thinking, we decided that we want to make Tweed Ride as great as we possibly can. So we’ve decided to postpone the event until Spring 2014. That way you don’t have to choose between us and all the other great events happening in K-W October 19. We’ll be letting you know the Spring date soon so get ready to add us to your schedule.

However, if you had your heart set on going for a bike ride October 19, never fear – we still have something for you. We’re going to be leading a cycling group up to St. Jacob’s where Block Three Brewery will be opening it’s doors to give us a tour of their facility! You’ll also get a chance to sample their brand new batch of Blocktoberfest beer. The meeting time of noon at Waterloo Park is still the same, and we’ll be headed out shortly after that. There is no registration fee at all (though sadly, there will be no prizes). You can still dress fancy, or not – we’ll leave that up to you. We just wanted to make sure we could all enjoy what is certain to be a beautiful fall day.

For any questions or refund information, please email communityeditor@thecord.ca.

Q & A

What do I wear to a Tweed Ride?

Great questions! The idea is to get dressed in your best impression of a 1910’s/1920s cyclist. Tweed is great, as are hounds-tooth, plaid and anything else you can think of provided you look good. For some examples of what to wear, check out London Tweed Run, Toronto Tweed Ride and our pal’s Windsor Tweed Ride.

What route will we be taking?

We’re keeping the route a surprise until the day of, but it will take participants through several Waterloo and Kitchener neighborhoods. The length of the trip will be a leisurely 10 km, with stops in the middle for refreshments and merriment. We will be traveling on a combination of city streets and bicycle paths.

What does the registration fee go to?

The registration fee goes to supporting the Cord Community Edition, Waterloo Region’s Independent Monthly. We are a non-profit, volunteer driven publication and as such we depend on your support to keep us going. In exchange, we’re going to keep throwing fun events for you and putting out the best independent monthly we can.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely! We will be traveling as a group, and we will have juice, pop and other treats available for the younger crowd. However, children should be comfortable biking on city streets and able to keep pace for the length of the route.

Are you looking for volunteers or sponsors?

You bet we are! Email H.G. Watson at communityeditor@thecord.ca to get involved.
